Description:   This ride will take you on one giant loop of San Diego County. The ride starts out by climbing out of Borrego Springs, via Yacqui Pass, heading over to Hwy 78, then down the Great Overland Stage Road to Ocotillo for the first control. From there, you'll climb 3300 ft in 13 miles to get to the top of In-Ko-Pah Road, then down to Jacumba. From there, you use Old Hwy 80, Hwy 94 and Otay Lakes Road to get to National City and then the coast. Up the coast all the way to San Celmente, and then back south. Once in Oceanside, you'll head inland to Old 395 Hwy up to Temecula for a bag drop and an optional sleep stop. From there, continue north to Hemet, then south on Sage road, then Hwy 79 to Warner Springs, then southeast on San Felipe Road for a couple miles. From San Felipe, you'll peel off onto Montezuma Valley Road and pass through Ranchita. Then it's a 12 mile, 4000ft descent to the finish.

Notes:

This route a single loop, and riders will not be returning to their cars or hotel rooms until the finish. There will be two bag drops: the first will be in National City, at miles 152.3, and the second will be at the Rodeway Inn in Temecula at mile 273.8. In the first bag drop, you may pick up items from a disposable bag but whatever you leave behind will not be returned to the finish line. In the Temecula Control, you may pick up items and leave items. Anything that is left at Temecula will be returned to the finish line after all riders have left the control. The bags for the Temecula Control must be a RUSA-sized duffel bag, or equivalent, with your name clearly written on the bag. Oversized bags will not be accepted at the start line, for transport to Temecula.

The Temecula Control is an optional sleep stop. That is, you may choose to rent a hotel room in Temecula for a bit of shuteye before pressing on to Hemet. If the organizers rent a hotel room in Temecula, they cannot allow any rider to sleep in that room; that would be considered support and organizers must offer the same level of neutral support to all riders. Riders may use the bag drop in Temecula and decide to sleep in Hemet, or decide to go without sleep until the finish - that's the rider's option. In any case, hotel accommodations before, during, and after the event are the rider's responsibility.

The HQ hotel is the Oasis Motel in Borrego Springs. If you're renting a hotel room in Borrego Springs, please rent a room at the Oasis, if one's available. If you're not planning on keeping your hotel room for the duration of the event, please park your car somewhere other than the hotel parking lot; you may be able to park on the outside of Christmas Circle, which is nearby.

Finish Line instructions:

Based on a number of factors, there are special instructions for checking in at the finish at Borrego Springs:

If you finish after 8:00am on Sunday -it takes you more than 27.5 hours -then you don't really need to do anything special. There'll be some food, water, and a person to sign and take your brevet card at the HQ hotel

If you finish between 6:00am and 8:00am, you have a couple options. When you arrive in Borrego Springs, you can go to Kendall's Cafe, which is in the mini mall right across the street from the finish line, and get your card signed. The restaurant opens at 6:00am. You can cool your heels in the restaurant until 8:00am, go and get cleaned up, or go out for a recover ride. At 8:00am, come over to the hotel with all your paperwork.

If you finish before 6:00am, you'll need to find a 24 hour business or ATM and complete a transaction that produces a time-stamped receipt. Again, you can go get cleaned up and come back to the finish after it opens at 8:00am.

If you think that you are going to finish before 8:00am and don't want to wait around until the finish opens at 8:00am, we'll have pre-addressed/stamped envelopes for you (at the start) to take on the ride to mail back your completed brevet card and receipts. Just remember to get a time stamped receipt at the finish - the postmark on the envelope will not count as a proof of passage. And please know that some mail gets lost, which the organizers can't be responsible for. In other words, we'd love to see you at the finish at or after 8:00, regardless of when you finish.
